    The Makerere Historical Journal publishes peer-reviewed articles, reports and book reviews on topics related to Ugandan and eastern African history, archaeology and heritage. Originally established in 1975, the Journal is the publication of the Department of History, Archaeology and Heritage Studies at Makerere University.

    The mandate of Makerere University Journal of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (MUJAES) is to disseminate research finds in key areas covering agricultural, food, forestry, and environmental sciences. MUJAES publishes 2 issues per year. Papers are available online, with occasional prints. 

  • MAWAZO

    Mawazo (sing. wazo) is a comprehensive Kiswahili word covering the following activities of the mind: meditations, reflections, thoughts, opinions, and ideas. Mawazo is a multidisciplinary international, peer reviewed journal published in English by the College of Humanities and Social SciencesMakerere University. It is a scholarly journal of research and opinions in the Humanities and Social Sciences. Mawazo was first published in June 1967 as a publication of the Faculties of Arts and Social SciencesMakerere University to promote national consciousness and pan-Africanism through the promotion of basic research in the humanities and social sciences. Mawazo seeks to disseminate cutting-edge research and opinions relevant and reflective of African realities. The thorough multidisciplinary character of the journal enables it to analyse the African conditions in a more holistic manner.

  • Makerere Journal of Languages, Literature and Communication

    The Makerere Journal of Languages, Literature and Communication is a leading peer reviewed journal of human interaction in Africa that publishes scholarly articles from across the world. It also includes reviews, announcements and forums. This annual journal, housed in the School of Languages, Literature and Communication at Makerere University, is published by Makerere University Press. The deadline for submission of articles for the regular issue is November 15, every year. In case of a special issue, the deadline will be communicated by the issue editor.

  • African Health Sciences

    African Health Sciences is an internationally refereed journal publishing original articles on research, clinical practice, public health policy, planning, implementation and evaluation, in the health and related sciences relevant to Africa and the tropics. From 2005 African Health Sciences will be published four times a year in March, June, September and December. 

  • Makerere Journal of Higher Education

    Thrice yearly, the East African School of Higher Education Studies and Development (College of Education and External Studies, Makerere University) produces Makerere Journal of Higher Education (MAJOHE). The goal of the Journal is to provide a visible outlet for definitive articles that discuss the theories, practices and policies relating to the role, development, management and improvement of higher education from an international viewpoint. Therefore, the editor invites contributions that link relevant theory and research evidence to the policy and practice of higher education. 

  • Makerere Medical Journal

    The Makerere Medical Journal (MMJ) is a prime student-run journal of research ans related activites. MMJ ia a fountain publication of the Makerere University College of Health Sciences (MakCHS). Since 1972, the journal has always published undergraduate scholarly articles.

  • Makerere University Journal of Research and Innovations in Teacher Education

    The Research and Innovations in Teacher Education (RITE) Journal encompasses various topics within teacher education. These include but are not limited to:
    • Innovative teaching methodologies and pedagogies.
    • Research on early childhood care and education.
    • Studies on emerging technologies in education.
    • Capacity building and professional development for educators.
    • Policy analysis and development in teacher education.

  • East African Journal for Peace and Human Rights

    The East African Journal for Peace and Human Rights (EAJPHR) is an international, peer-reviewed, bi-annual scholarly publication of the Human Rights and Peace Centre (HURIPEC) at the School of Law, Makerere University.

  • Makerere Gender & Development Journal

    MGDJ welcomes original research articles, review papers, policy analyses, and critical essays that engage with gender and development issues at local, national, regional, and global levels. The journal prioritizes work that is theoretically grounded and/or empirically rich, and that contributes to both academic knowledge and practical solutions.
